Care basics

Good habits keep the water healthy.

Every aquarium is different. Use water tests and species-specific guidance to set a routine that fits your tank.

01 / BEFORE FISH

Cycle a new filter

Beneficial bacteria need time to establish. Test ammonia and nitrite and wait for the tank to be ready before adding fish.

02 / WATER

Test, don’t guess

Clear water can still have harmful waste. Keep a test kit and check water quality routinely, especially after setup or changes.

03 / MAINTENANCE

Change water thoughtfully

Make regular partial water changes. Treat tap water and keep replacement water close to the tank’s temperature.

04 / FILTER

Protect helpful bacteria

When cleaning filter media, rinse it in removed tank water instead of untreated tap water.

DAILY AQUARIUM NOTE

Prepare replacement water before a water change

Treat tap water with an aquarium-safe conditioner and bring it close to the tank’s temperature before adding it. Small, steady habits help keep the environment stable.
